Accelerate Your Success in Web3 - Join Move the Needle Mentoring Program
Paving the way for professional women in web3
This week I launched Move the needle - web3 mentoring program for professional women. I debated with myself for a long time now if this program would even be needed. Then I thought of my own journey, back in 2014, and it was lots of hard work finding resources, trying to understand Bitcoin and blockchain, getting used to the lingo, and taking a course online twice to really get it. Then an explosion of crypto projects happened and it all sped up by 300%!
Eventually I left my career as a management consultant to explore the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency full-time. Through self-study and hands-on experience, I gained a deep understanding of how this technology works, its purpose, and how it can improve our lives. I invested in cryptocurrency, mined it, and even co-founded a regulated hedge fund. I had a great deal of help from my husband who’s my main ally and supporter no matter what I choose to do in life.
Was it easy? No. Did I ever feel like I don’t belong? Many times. Have I failed? Yes, several times. Did I give up? Not a chance!
I remember one of the first female crypto communities that I joined in 2017 had about 10 women and although it grew to a few thousands over time, we were all facing the same issues:
Navigating the complex technical landscape of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and decentralisation.
Finding the right resources and information, especially for those new to the industry.
Limited access to investment opportunities or funding.
Lack of diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
Balancing work and personal life in a fast-paced and demanding industry.
What is interesting, after spending nearly a decade in the industry I can see that not much has changed. Yes, we now have prominent women in the space, we have renowned companies started by brilliant women, we have numerous women centric communities and the number of men allies has increased too.
However, how easy is it to find this information, how visible are the leading examples for women to learn about and follow, how readily available is the RIGHT information in an overload of content in a very fast paced industry like web3?
In reality, it can be damn hard to know what information is valid or even real, how to separate a scammy project from a genuine one, how to price your value in the job market or how to start a business or a career in web3. In the age of “fake news” and “everyone for themselves” a newcomer can feel scared and overwhelmed to consider web3 a career path.
With crypto exchanges collapsing and scams on the rise, web3 doesn’t seem like an appealing industry to work in. Since media gives so much airtime to bad apples and talk only about astronomic financial gains, how can you consider that this can be the future for your career growth? As a woman, I’d say if I was joining web3 space now, I would be very cautious.
Because the industry is still relatively new and unregulated, there is a higher risk of scams and fraudulent activities compared to more established industries. Falling victim to one of these scams can not only result in financial loss, but it can also damage a person's reputation and make it harder for them to find future job opportunities. However, it's important to note that scams are not unique to Web3 industries, and they can happen in any industry or sector (SVB just to name one example).
Studies have shown that women tend to be more risk averse than men. This may be due to a variety of factors, including social conditioning, financial situation, and cultural expectations. Regardless of the underlying causes, it's important to recognise that risk aversion can impact women's career choices and opportunities, especially in fields like Web3 that may require a higher tolerance for risk and a deeper fundamentals knowledge. Prepared women who learn to navigate the industry can make better informed choices.
Being a woman with hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of the industry, a mentoring program for women in web3 just made sense to me. What better way to give back than supporting other women in their journey, helping them find their path, start or grow a business or a career in web3, and support them every step of the way.
My program is tailored to each individual client's needs and covers a range of topics, including blockchain, cryptocurrency, defi, nft, metaverse, and much more. I want to enable and inspire women to succeed in the industry and make it a more inclusive and diverse space. Whether you're new to web3 or an established executive or founder, you can expect personalised guidance and support, increased job satisfaction, career growth guidance, and increased knowledge of web3 fundamentals.
To celebrate the launch of my mentoring program, I’m offering a free comprehensive web3 glossary, that will help you get a solid grasp of key terms and concepts, make informed decisions and take advantage of new opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.
